It appears that the rumor regarding an upgrade to Star Tours has been confirmed with a feature article in the Star Wars Insider magainze’s September 2008 issue.
In Star Wars’ 10th anniversary year George Lucas had something very special in store – a simulator ride over two years in he making. It’s little discussed, but the Star Wars spin-off Star Tours is 21 years old this year! The combined brainchild of the Disney Imagineers and Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light & Magic, the ride fused a newly-created Star Wars spaceflight movie with the synchronized movements of a flight simulator. In the latest issue, Star Wars Insider presents everything you ever want to know about Star Tours!
Here’s to hoping this really happens, and happens soon. Then again, I’m sure the ride will end up going dark for several months. Of course, it is plausible that they shut down one vehicle and work on that, and perform a turn-key upgrade. Hmmm…
